Walden Private Middle School
Walden School is a private middle school providing high quality education in a safe and caring environment. A challenging academic curriculum in a multi-graded classroom is offered to self-motivated students, who receive personal attention, guidance and encouragement. Our purpose is to prepare our students academically, emotionally and creatively for any high school program they might choose. We want our young people to know how to learn and how to communicate what they have learned.
Walden’s academic program centers around inquiry-based investigations, integrating all areas of the curriculum. Through these investigations students are able to synthesize the oral, written and visual aspects of learning. Walden believes in a “hands on” approach to learning, supplemented with field trips, community service work and peer tutoring. Students work in small groups of mixed ages and abilities. Skill development in math, reading and writing is stressed. Math is taught at different levels, including general math, pre-algebra and Algebra 1. Language mechanics, literary analysis, earth, life and physical sciences, American history and geography round out the curriculum.
The arts are an integral component to the Walden program. Students have the opportunity to explore visual arts, theater arts and creative writing on a regular basis. Guest artists, cultural events and performance opportunities give students a glimpse into the professional arts community. It is our belief that parents and teachers are partners in education. Communication is the foundation in the relationship between families and Walden School. We value parental input and family participation in school activities.
Middle school is a transitional time between the broad-based elementary school curriculum and the rigorous challenges of secondary school. Walden stresses the processes of learning: research, writing comprehensive papers, meeting deadlines, analyzing data and oral communication, such as group discussions. It is our goal to develop socially responsible, creative and knowledgeable young people who are ready for the challenges of high school.
Walden School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its admission policies, scholarships and loan programs, athletic or other school-administered programs.
